How fear of life-saving technology swept through Africa
In May 2002, in the midst of a severe food shortage in sub-Saharan Africa, the government of Zimbabwe turned away 10,000 tons of corn from the World Food Program (WFP). The WFP then diverted the food to other countries, including Zambia, where 2.5 million people were in need. The Zambian government locked away the corn, banned its distribution, and stopped another shipment on its way to the country. “Simply because my people are hungry,” President Levy Mwanawasa later said, “is no justification to give them poison.”

The corn came from farms in the United States, where most corn produced—and consumed—comes from seeds that have been engineered to resist some pests, and thus qualifies as genetically modified. Throughout the 90s, genetically modified foods were seen as holding promise for the farmers of Africa, so long as multinationals would invest in developing superior African crops rather than extend the technology only to the rich. When Zambia and Zimbabwe turned away food aid, simmering controversy over the crops themselves brimmed over and seeped into almost every African state. Cast as toxic to humans, destructive to the environment, and part of a corporate plot to immiserate the poor, cutting edge farming technology is most feared where it is most needed. As Robert Paarlberg notes in his new book, Starved for Science: How Biotechnology is Being Kept Out of Africa (Harvard University Press), in 2004 the Sudanese government “took time out from its genocidal suppression of a rebellion in Darfur to issue a memorandum requiring that all food aid brought into the country should be certified as free of any GM ingredients.”

While I can appreciate not wanting genetically manipulated foodstuff, I wonder if that what this is really about. Maybe it’s more about making sure the despots stay in power. Or maybe I’m just cynical.

D.C. Seeks Consent To Search for Guns
Amnesty Offered for Access to Homes

D.C. police are so eager to get guns out of the city that they’re offering amnesty to people who allow officers to come into their homes and get the weapons.

As put so eloquently by a friend of mine: “So let me get this straight, the Washington “government” wants citizens to forego their 4th Amendment rights so their 2nd Amendment rights can be violated?”

I could write for hours and not manage to express my feelings about this…

But the short of it is this:

#1. NEVER invite the Police into your house. I don’t have anything to hide. You probably don’t either. But they will find something, if they want to, or if they have to plant it. Most of the Peace Officers I know are great, upstanding guys. But you just need one bad one with an attitude to ruin the rest of your life. And it happens all the time.

#2. Do you think any miscreant involved in any criminal activity is going to invite the Police in to take a look around and clean the firearms out of their house? If you think this is a valid scenario, e-mail me and I’ll tell you where to send the money for the Brooklyn Bridge, and the title to all the property in downtown Las Vegas.

#3. Covered above: NEVER GIVE UP ANY RIGHTS! Giving up 4th amendment rights to violate your 2nd amendment rights…. YOU FAIL! YOU FAIL! YOU FAIL!.

It is illegal for foreigners to vote in our elections, just like it would be illegal for us to vote in their elections. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen here, but it’s not legal.

THE REST OF THE WORLD HATES US ANYWAY, so I really couldn’t give a rip who they would prefer. I would prefer that the Iranians get rid of the madman they have. Do you think they care what I think? I wish the North Koreans would dump the maniac they have. Do you think they care what I think? I wish Venezuela would run Hugo Chavez out of their country on a rail, but do you think they care what I think? I wish the Cubans would ditch all the Castro family, but do you think they care what I think?

When Senator Larry Craig was caught doing what he should be executed for, I could easily find at least 5 instances on every news site that he was a Republican.

Today we hear : Criminal charges were filed today against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty . Guess the party affiliation. It’s not on that site. Nor on this one: Detroit Mayor Charged With Perjury. Nor this one:Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said today he expects “full and complete vindication” of the perjury, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and misconduct charges that were announced against him and former chief of staff Christine Beatty this morning. Not even on the front page of this one: Kwame Kilpatrick Official Site. I had to go here: to read “Serving as leader of the Democratic Caucus” so I could find out what party he was a member of.

I know everyone loves to celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ. Don’t give me any of the “Winter Holiday” stuff. The birth of Christ was, and still is, an earth altering event.

But His birth was only a prelude to the day that was, and is, MOST important to mankind. His resurrection from the grave. Without that, He would have been just another prophet, or holy man.

No other “religion” in the world has a risen savior.
